Back from Scapercon!

Much to say about con.

Still too tired to make sense of it all for you right now. I did take plenty of pictures, though! Maybe I’ll get them developed one of these days. I seriously need to get a digital camera already. *growl*

I will just say that the whole trip was a huge amount of fun and that I would certainly do it again if given the chance.

Oh, and Jodie looked really hot on the dance floor at con. That is all.

Okay, so now I’m really starting to get excited.

I can’t believe she’ll be here in approximately 13 hours! Even if we do get hopelessly lost and never make it to Chicago, this trip is going to kick much ass.

I just spent the last hour or two working on a couple of VCDs that she wants to watch with a friend of hers at the con. I just hope they don’t mind the few special extras I added. *evil laugh*

I really do have to learn more about VCD and DVD creation. I just used the limited tools that Nero provides, but it was still kinda fun. I usually just burn video files to disk in the format in which I acquired them (usually mpg) since I watch most of them at my PC anyway. My TV and DVD player aren’t the best quality, so things normally look better on my monitor.

Chicago by Car

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2003

In just a few days my visiting TriniBabe and I will be off on our way to Chicago for ScaperCon 2003! She’s a big fan of Farscape (may it rest in peace) and so she’s flying into Miami and then we are renting a car and driving up to Chicago for 3 days of madness with our fellow Scaper friends.

I myself got into the show a bit late. Only started watching at the beginning of the fourth season. She kept trying to get me into the show, but I was stubborn as usual. Luckily, she finally convinced me (after numerous threats to do me bodily harm) and I quickly became a fan. Of course the show was canceled at the end of that season… Bastards!

Scapers are about the wackiest fans I’ve ever come across. Though, I guess that’s to be expected since the show was itself pretty insane. At first, I must admit, I was a little freaked out by the thought of being surrounded by a whole con’s worth of Scapers, but I guess now they’ve infected me and I’m starting to exhibit similar traits (help me!).

This is the first time I’ve ever driven so far by myself and I am seriously hoping I don’t get lost or kidnapped by cultists or whatever. My friend is not yet of age to legally drive a rental so she will be acting as navigator. She claims that she couldn’t read a map or decipher directions if her live depended on it, but I’m sure she’s just exaggerating. *gulp*

On reading a book.

I still find myself here in sunny Bensalem, Pennsylvania and am amazed at how a slight change in your environment can improve your productivity. In-between bouts of enjoying the beatific silence in the area, a silence that is only interrupted by the occasional shriek of a young child enjoying the beginnings of summer vacation, I actually read a book.

It was one of those old-fashioned things filled with paper pages and bound between two covers, in fact. I don’t, by any means, want to imply that I am not an avid reader, but as of late all my reading has involved me staring glassy-eyed at my computer monitor. It was such a nice change of pace to lie down in a warm but breezy second-story room and while away the entire day reading. I feel somehow more civilized.

My impromptu vacation has already stretched longer than I had originally intended, but both the fear of another long bus ride and the pleasant affect the area has had on my nerves are conspiring to keep me here longer. Of course, my hosts might be seeing the situation from a whole other angle.

Maybe I’ll return home tomorrow, then.

My spur of the moment bus trip up North is going quite well. Got to meet a chat friend from Australia and her sister who were here for a few days during their cross-country vacation. Very nice people. I love meeting net friends, barely any of them have been psychos yet! :D

Aside from the usual touristy places and such, we also went bowling last night. Now, I don’t normally enjoy bowling that much, but in those newer bowling alleys with the music and the lights and the whole disco thing going on, it’s a lot more fun. Of course, it’s also a lot of fun when you’re with cool people. Oh and I rolled the highest game of the night at 132! (yeah yeah, not exactly a high score, but still…)

Every time I come up here I get the urge to move here. It’s so nice and calm. I like all the little hills and changes in elevation. Living most of my life in Miami has made me accustomed to a totally flat world. I also like that there are trees everywhere. And not just the types of trees that are planted by the city and look like they don’t really want to be there, as in Miami.

On the other hand, I’ve never been here in the dead of winter with snow everywhere and temperatures far in excess of anything I’m used to.

I am now headed out of this wacky thing they call a “basement” and go try to get some writing done.
